Orlando Farmers Market

By Jessica A. Otero

ORLANDO,Fla.--- It is that time of the year for some of Orlando's best live entertainment, gourmet food, art, and more.

This seasonal occasion is known as Orlando Farmers Market. This event comes around every year from September until May.

Citizens from all around the city come to taste international food, watch live entertainment, walk around Lake Eola and observe art work from many local artists." I love admiring the artwork from these local artists. It is fascinating to see all of this undiscovered talet," says local teacher, Stacey Rose.

The crowds around Lake Wola are teachers, senior citizens, and parents with their children. This event is for all ages, as even children can enjoy playing games and doing crafts. "I bring my children every Sunday after church because this is a great way to get them away from watching television when they are off from school," says mother of two, Felicia Ramirez.

The Orlando Farmers Market brings vendors every year who love to cook, show off their art work, and sell some of their homemade jewelry. This year, the Lake Eola Park setting has allowed for even more food vendors. "This is my second time coming here with my wife and we love being able to cook for the public," says retired chef, John Martins. Crowds can expect a taste of gourmet food from so many different flavors. These tastes range from Italian fried ravioli, Chinese egg rolls, and even German hot dogs.

Many local artists displayed paintings of abstract to patriotic. They also displayed handmade jewelry. All of these vendors are veterans to this event or up and coming business owners wanting to test how the public will respond to their products.

The Orlando Farmers Market is a great opportunity to spend the day just hafint fun on a good weather day. Many people spend their time playing games, eating great food, and just enjoying a day in the sun.

Any more information regarding times or vendor information can be found on www.icflorida.com. For vendors interested in being part of the market, they can go to the Downtown Development Board website at www.downtownorlando.com.

Failed Lawyer Becomes Golf Reporter

By Jessica A. Otero

ORLANDO, Fla. --- Could risking everything-including personal life, be worth giving it all up for a childhood dream?

Well this is what Adam Barr of the Golf Channel explained to students at Valencia Community College. Barr, a successful and acknowledged reporter, gave a first account to what it was like to give up the nine-to-five job to chase a dream.

“I was a lawyer for six years and decided, with no experience, I want to work in the golf industry,” a dream sport of his since he was young, said Barr.

Taking the risk of working in the golf industry, which some like his mother did not approve of- “failed lawyer” is what Barr said his mother always thought of him.

Changing his path worked for Barr, as he moved on from working in golf print to now golf broadcast journalism.

Traveling all around the world and having uncommon experiences, this golf reporter is happy with the risk he took years ago because today, “I am standing next to the Hope Girls at golf tournaments,” said Barr.

Suggestions for Sentinel

By Jessica A.Otero

With the free online access to the Orlando Sentinel there is no need to have a newspaper delivered to my house. This is the case for many people who believe the reason why there is a high decline in newspaper sales. 2008 is a new age in technology and sooner or later there won't be a necessity for paper as everything will change to digital.

Now with the Sentinel, a lot can change to get a head start in the new age of digital technology. The Sentinel will have to correct many problems they face at the moment.

The set up of the paper has been the same for many years. Nothing has changed with the paper. As time changes shouldn't businesses change with time? So why not look ahead into new ideas?

A main problem of the paper is the overall content of the paper. The Orlando Sentinel should change its whole layout and stories. The stories should be more personal and what most readers of today want to read. The Sentinel needs to establish themselves with many demographics and not just the older groups.

The Sentinel should take time in asking everyone what they should write about it. People love reading topics from fashion to music and to even weird news.

Another problem of the paper is the front cover of the Sentinel. Every front page content has been either about politics or sports. Leave those headlines for the sections already created for its purpose.

To make the Sentinel even better, the staff should really focus on making every story interesting. Whether it be local or national news. The paper should be something everyone wants to read and not something everyone throws away.

What’s in and out for 2008!

By Jessica A. Otero

Finally the new year has arrived and we can all say goodbye to leggings and over-sized dresses! Instead, say hello to form fitting flares and flower prints. Yes, flower prints for the year 2008!

Last year was all about leggings, purple and anything grey or metallic. Much of '07 fashion was about dressing more masculine rather than feminine. Us women all got a break we deserved because we really didn't have to show as much of our curves. Last year was more about hiding them.

Now for the new year, women will have to learn how to embrace their imperfections by looking perfect! Think of this year as more of a reality check for women. Forget about losing weight as your top resolution. 2008 is all about working with what you have.

Here are the do's and don't for 2008:

Do:
1. Waist cinching belts, its all about the hour glass shape.
2. Flower print, color and bold print is in again this time around.
3. Classic bag, invest your savings in an accessory that can last a lifetime!

Don't:
1. Over-sized dresses...don't hide.
2. Solid colors are out! Be spontaneous and creative!
3. Totes are out, please try and buy your first Prada bag!

This time around women will revolutionize into backing away from those tabloids of paper thin celebrities. We will begin to spend more time looking at ourselves in the mirror.

2008 is all about finding our unique selves.

Be different, and be yourself!
